Social Club New Opening Not Luck Of The Irish Says MEP

Thurrock Irish Association

Essex MEP Alex Mayer cut the ribbon to officially open a new foyer at the Thurrock Irish Association Social Club ahead of this weekend’s St Patrick Day celebrations.

The club, which only five years ago was just twenty four hours from going bankrupt, is now on a firmer financial footing and able to invest in new facilities.

Ms Mayer said: “I’m delighted to officially open the new foyer. It’s certainly not the luck of the Irish that has made this possible but the hard work of everyone involved in the club.

“I’m pleased to celebrate the positive impact Irish culture has made here in the Tilbury. I know from working in the European Parliament how Ireland punches above its weight across the world.

“At a time when Brexit has the very real potential to divide our two countries, I want to celebrate and strengthen our relationship with our nearest neighbours, not put up barriers between us.”
