Ryanair Crisis - Essex MEP speaks out

At the Ryanair debate in the European Parliament on 3rd October 2017, Essex MEP Alex Mayer said:

"This crisis of cancellations, inconveniencing thousands of passengers has been on the cards for some time. And it is right that we debate how passengers rights should be enforced but what people really want is a convenient and reliable service. The truth is there is an inherent vulnerability in the Ryanair model. Relying on unsustainable employment practices: zero hours contracts, bogus self employment, degrading treatment, no sick pay or maternity pay.

"You cannot pummel pilots for decades and then expect a smooth ride.

"This crisis may pass but the problems will roll on unless there is a change of mindset. As MEP for the East of England covering Stansted airport, my message is clear. This doesn't take blue sky thinking just an end to unsustainable and wrong employment practices."
