No black eyes this Black Friday

Back in 2013 and 2014 Black Friday saw shocking scenes including violence and a two-thirds increase in incidents of verbal abuse, threats and violence against retail staff. Since then trade union Usdaw has worked with employers to minimise abuse but with another Black Friday approaching it is vital to be vigilant.

Around 265 retail staff are violently attacked every day, with many more threatened and verbally abused.

Alex Mayer MEP said "My message to bargain hunters is clear, keep your cool and respect shopworkers.”
