A Cambridgeshire MEP showed her solidarity with the striking Cambridge McDonalds workers today as MEPs gathered outside a Brussels branch of the global fast food restaurant.
Labour's Alex Mayer MEP said:
“McDonald's workers in Cambridge, across Britain and Europe are employed on low wages and zero-hours contracts. Those on strike today are sending a message of hope to workers right across our continent."
Last year the European Parliament started investigating working conditions in McDonald’s restaurants across European countries. The decision followed successful petitions and consequent hearings with trade union representatives from the British Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU), the Belgian FGTB Horval and the French Trade Union Confederation CGT.
