MEP in vigil for Greenfell fire victims

Fire Vigil

East of England MEP Alex Mayer insisted fire services from across Europe must continue to learn from each other post Brexit, after she met firefighters at a vigil for the victims of the Grenfell Fire disaster outside the European Parliament.

The fire fighters explained that right across Europe lessons were being learned from the tragedy and discussed strong Europe-wide regulations that exist on fire safety.

Ms Mayer said “Fire safety measures won't do anything to bring back people’s loved ones who were lost in the blaze, but they can try to stop a similar event from ever happening again”

“It is important that we work closely with our partners in Europe to share advice and information. We need the best possible safety precautions both now and after Brexit, we should not view these life saving measures as 'red tape'".
