It’s Green for Go as Cambridge MEP Alex Mayer launched a £30,000 fund-raising appeal at the Centre for Computing History to mark International Museum Day and the European Year of Heritage.
Ms Mayer pushed the button on a set of traffic lights exhibited in the museum, switching them from Red to Green to say “Go” to start the appeal.
Money raised by the museum will go towards buying new equipment and learning resources for young visitors.
Ms Mayer MEP said: “I’m encouraging Cambridge people to really get behind this fundraising appeal to support this hidden gem of a museum. With technology moving at a breathtaking pace computers, phones and consoles often get quickly discarded - but here a snap shot of modern history is being preserved. It is fantastic that our tech city is both preserving the past and teaching youngsters new skills for the future.”
Dr Anjali Das, Head of Learning at the Centre for Computer History said: “Exploring computer history, complimented by real interactive learning and creative hands-on activities shows young people how they might be on a path to writing the next chapters in the history of computing!”
