The day after the McStrike Euro-MP Alex Mayer spoke about the local workers on the floor of the European Parliament.
Ms Mayer said: “The young workers and trade unionists I spoke to told me they are sick and tired of zero hours contracts, insecurity and wages that don’t pay the rent.”
Across Europe there have also been McStrike protests in Belgium, Finland, France and Germany.
The Labour Euro MP believes that European and international solidarity is vital to achieve change for the better for workers for the world’s second biggest private employer.
Alex Mayer MEP said: “McDonald’s is a multi-billion pound, dollar and Euro business which pays its senior executives sky-high wages but pays low wages for the vast majority of its 2 million employees.”
Addressing her colleagues in the chamber she said: “As we chanted yesterday in the U.K, so let it be across all of Europe: ‘Hold the burgers, hold the fries, we want our wages supersized.’”
