Happy 25th UNISON

NHS nurses at West Suffolk Hospital joined Suffolk Euro MP Alex Mayer to celebrate the 25th birthday of the trade union UNISON.

The healthcare staff held a Birthday bash with a special UNISON themed birthday cake at their tea party, where Ms Mayer handed over a giant Birthday card to branch chair Paul Pearson.

UNISON’s 1000 strong Suffolk Area Health Branch covers members working in West Suffolk Hospital and in Suffolk Community Health. Nationally UNISON has over a million members.

The union was formed in 1993 when three public sector trade unions, the National and Local Government Officers Association (NALGO), the National Union of Public Employees (NUPE) and the Confederation of Health Service Employees (COHSE) merged.

The Labour MEP said: “Happy Birthday UNISON. We all like cake on a birthday, but the best present for nurses this year would be for Theresa May and Jeremy Hunt to give them the pay rise they deserve."
