Cracking New Blue Chocolate Eggs Launched
Cambridgeshire MEP Alex Mayer embraced her inner Easter bunny as she hopped along to unveil a brand new blue Easter egg at Ely based chocolatiers Harry Specters.
Blue is the colour for autism awareness and so the Ely chocolatiers have specially commissioned an Easter egg in that colour.
Husband and wife team Shaz and Mona Shah, behind Harry Specters, are on a mission to create a sweeter life for people with autism. They currently employ four staff members with autism and provide work experience for up to 10 local young people with the condition at a time.
The Shahs son is autistic so it is a cause close to their heart. They will explain to Ms Mayer that only 16% of autistic adults in the UK are in full-time paid employment, and only 32% are in some kind of paid work. The National Autistic Society estimate 1 in 100 people are autistic meaning around 6500 people in Cambridgeshire are living with the condition.
Alex Mayer MEP who backs Autism-Europe’s strategy on research and sharing best practice to support the needs of the autism community said: “What an egg-cellent idea! I’d highly recommend these tasty treats - the chocolate tastes even better when you know you are supporting a good cause.”
