Bully Trump Shows Britain Stronger In EU Says Alex Mayer MEP

In response to President Trump's steel and aluminium tariffs announced last month, the European Union will launch retaliatory tariffs against US exports this Friday 22 June.

US exports such as jeans, motorbikes, cranberries, orange juice, sweetcorn and peanut butter will be targeted, trade commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom confirmed today.

Labour MEP Alex Mayer said:

“The position of Donald Trump is deeply worrying. He seems hell-bent on provoking trade conflicts around the globe.

“But he can't get away with bullying his trading partners.

"Of course Britain and the EU didn't want to get into this position but Trump's unilateral and unjustified decision didn't leave many options.

“What today does show though, is that Britain is so much stronger as part of the world’s largest single market bargaining as part of a bloc with the weight of the 500 million strong consumers."
