Pro-Europeans from across East Anglia will gathered in Ipswich this Saturday as part of a nationwide day of action.
The Great Eastern March brought together local Ipswich residents and campaigners from across the rest of Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.
In her speech to the rally, Suffolk Euro MP Alex Mayer said: “The facts tell us Brexit will make us weaker, poorer and more isolated.”
She will address specific local Brexit concerns including threats to manufacturing, Sizewell falling out of the EURATOM treaty, customs changes for Felixstowe and how for Newmarket race course, even the free movement of race horses is under threat.
Continuing Ms Mayer will say:“Not every Leave voter voted for Brexit-at-any-cost. They were, after all, told that it wouldn’t cost anything at all. That there would be a Brexit dividend that would all go to the NHS! But as it becomes clearer that Brexit is actually very costly, those voters are entitled to say that that is not what they were promised and not what they voted for.”
She will conclude: ”It is not patriotic to want Britain to be weaker, poorer and more isolated.
“So we must unite, we must fight, we must organise and say: we are proud to be East Anglian, we are proud to be British, we are proud to be European and we will be heard.”
