Norfolk MEP Alex Mayer will speak on the human cost of Brexit at an event ‘In Limbo’.

Ms Mayer will say that in her role as MEP she has been contacted by hundreds of people from other EU countries living in Norfolk and by British citizens living in other EU countries who feel worried and uncertain about their futures.

EU citizens living in the U.K. had no vote in the referendum and U.K. citizens living abroad lose their rights to vote after 15 years.

Ms Mayer said: “It’s shameful that people’s lives have been used as a political football by the UK Government in the Brexit negotiations.

“If only Theresa May had listened to Jeremy Corbyn and made a generous offer to EU citizens living in the U.K. at the start of this process. We would then have got off on the right foot, which would have helped U.K. citizens living in Europe too and avoided unnecessary heartache.”
