“Queen's Speech Shows Weak And Unstable Government Unfit For Brexit Talks” Says Alex Mayer MEP

Parliament has reopened today with the Queen's Speech outlining the Government's programme for the next Parliamentary term.

Commenting Labour MEP for the East of England Alex Mayer said:

"This is the programme of a weak and humiliated Prime Minister forced to abandon vast swathes of her Tory manifesto before she even begins. Yet she has failed to listen to the clear message from the British people that austerity needs to end and we want investment in our NHS and schools.

“We’ve already seen, 13 days after the General Election, the Government unable to seal a deal with their political allies the DUP. How will they cope when it comes to the hard bargaining with the European Union?

"All we have heard is that we face a supremely difficult time, and that the fallout from Brexit will dominate. Sadly I believe at the end of the process Britain will be weaker, poorer and more isolated."
