East of England MEP Alex Mayer has welcomed today’s conference speech by Jeremy Corbyn MP, Leader of the Labour Party, as a sign that the party was united and a government in waiting.
Ms Mayer said “Jeremy’s speech was a sign that Labour can build on our success in this year’s General Election across the East of England, including gaining the Bedford, Ipswich and Peterborough seats, and form the next government.
“I commend this forward looking speech, looking ahead to the challenges we will face in the future, such as automation that could make so much of today’s work redundant. If properly managed scientific advances could bring new opportunities both in work and our free time – a new white heat of robotics.
“This united, forward looking Labour Party are a real alternative to this disastrous Tory Government who have failed the country on the economy, on the NHS, on social care, and have bungled the Brexit negotiations.
“Jeremy is right to say that the Tories are more interested in manoeuvring for possible leadership challenges than ensuring the best deal for Britain. They should do the decent thing and make way, for the good of the country.
“This speech shows that Labour is ready for government and ready to face the challenges that government brings.”
